outlook on life. Mel?s story ends very shortly after this discovery. He is found concluding his story by saying, ??I mean it was killing the old fart just because he couldn?t look at the *censored*ing woman?? (p. 416). At this point everyone at the table looked right at Mel. In an unsure voice he replied, ??Do you see what I?m saying?? (p. 416)? At this point Mel realizes he just contradicted his previous statements. He said earlier that true love contains two distinct kinds of love, the physical kind and the sentimental kind. The old man in this story definitely didn?t have both kinds of needs. The old man only stated the fact that he needed to see her, and not that he needed to talk to her. Therefore, the man only had a physical love for his wife and not a sentimental one.

Since the combination of the two is what constitutes true love as we see it in the story. We can conclude the man only has physical love for his wife but not true love. We as readers come away from this story with not a clue deeper into the definition of love. The couples in the story, and the couple in Mel?s story go to show us how mixed up a game love is. Also that it takes quite a bit to amount to the truest of love, and not just the normal love of everyday life.
